There are so many options for summertime fun for your kids, from camping and swimming to special summer vacations. In the community of Prescott, entertainment and recreation activities are just a short walk away. You don’t need to leave Prescott to have a great summer; when you feel the need for an adventure, there are dozens of activities in the area that your kids will love! However, when the time comes to explore a bit further out in the greater Edmonton area, there are three standout activities this summer and fall to spend a day on.

Explore the Edmonton Corn Maze 🌾

Opening July 26th, 2023, the corn maze is a great way to spend a day outside with your family. The maze changes yearly, so even previous visitors will have a new experience every time. The Edmonton Corn Maze also has more to offer than just the maze. There are straw bales, jumping pillows for adventurous kiddos (or adults!), and friendly farm animals such as goats, chickens, and rabbits. For an additional fee, you can take the “Corn Cob Express” (a ride through the corn on a miniature train), or you can play mini golf or spud guns.

If you visit in August, you may be lucky enough to catch the sunflowers in bloom. You can stroll through the sunflower fields, taking pictures and soaking in the beauty. Their summer hours (July 26 – September 4) are Monday – Saturday, 10 am-8 pm, and Sunday, 1 pm-5 pm. General admission is $14 if you book ahead of time online and $15 at the door. Kids ages 4-11 are $12 booked online and $13 at the door. Children under 4 are free.

Horseback Riding and Golf at Putting Horse Ranch 🐴 🏌️‍♀️

If you or your child have any interest in horses, Putting Horse Ranch is the place for you! Located just north of Spruce Grove, they have various horse-related activities, including riding lessons. You can also get a group together and book a horse-drawn wagon ride. If your kids want to be around horses but don’t want to ride them, book some “Horse Time.” Spend an hour brushing and petting the horses without the commitment of riding. There are riding lessons available as well if you or your kids are eager to hop in the saddle. All prices vary.

Putting Horse Ranch is also home to an 18-hole all-putting course. You may choose to bring your own putter. Otherwise, they will happily supply a putter and golf ball.

Berry Picking at Saskatoon Valley Orchards 🧺

Stony Plain’s Saskatoon Valley Orchards has berries just waiting to be picked by you! They usually open in mid-July and offer Saskatoon berry picking at $3 per pound. Mid-August, the season for Saskatoon berries will end, and it will be time for cherries. Berry picking is a great family-friendly activity for kids and grown-ups of all ages. Bring your own containers and enjoy the sunshine while you pick your berries. They are open 10 am-6 pm seven days a week and located at 51512 Range Road 22, Parkland County. No appointments are necessary; just show up and be ready to walk out with sticky fingers!
